What is Tatsumeeko?

Tatsumeeko is a Web3 idle strategy RPG metaverse for Discord with a focus on loot, progression, building, community and multiplayer elements. As an otherworlder, you begin your journey by washing up on a peaceful island within the Federation - a partnership between the 5 city states on the continent of Steyria. In this era of rapid modernization, even the less magically-inclined are able to eke out a decent living thanks to the advent of technology. While an uneasy peace hangs over Steyria, things are about to change due to the arrival of the otherworlders and the appearance of enemies long passed off as myth.

Core Features

A Living World

We believe Tatsumeeko should be a world where stories and multiplayer activities form the basis of interaction between people and communities. Many in our team are big fans of MMORPGs like FFXIV, creative games like Minecraft and mobage like Alchemy Stars and Crusaders Quest (there's plenty more). We've created many friendships, built our own stories and taken part in shared experiences through these games and their worlds - now we're in a position to take this concept even further.

Through a main story and side quests, characters and NPCs will bring life to this world we call Ielia, and create an engaging experience that can be enjoyed with friends and communities. We are experienced at running Tatsu as a live-ops service, so patches and updates mean our metaverse and your community will always keep growing.

Party Progression

Collect different companions to create different party combinations in tandem with your adventurer.

While we like the party management aspects of many mobage games, many of them focus on having you put together a team of characters you can't personalize. This would be insufficient for a metaverse, since it's important to have a visual representation of yourself. We ended up getting around this issue by designing a hybrid system where your main character avatar can be joined by 3 party members of your choosing. You'll swap out different characters depending on the activities that you're doing be it combat, gathering or other things. Each party member collected will have their own progression and equipment, while your main character can switch freely between different combat classes to suit the current lineup of your party.

Idle Combat

Because of the limitations of graphics on Discord, we had to design a system that would both work on mobile applications and still look fancy on Discord. We decided to go with an automated, turn based system where you face off against squads of enemies in combat. Enemies and squads have different combinations of elements, attack and defense types as well as special skills that alter the course of battle. You will need to prepare your party to face off against different types of squads and configurations to optimize your strategy and reach victory. Each area has many different types of monsters and bosses for you to face off against and earn loot and NFTs.

Side Activities

Aside from the main gameplay loop, we'll be introducing life skills and side activities that you can participate in with your friends and communities. These include things like fishing, resource gathering, farming, taking care of your pet companions and more in the future. We understand not everyone is interested in combat, and that's okay! We want everyone to be able to enjoy participating in the metaverse, so we're doing our best to add activities for everyone.

Community Dimensions

Ever since Discord's beta in 2015 we've seen so many unique communities - each with their own personality and interests. With dimensions we are introducing a way to visualize communities from within Discord. Dimensions can be built and upgraded; create your own cities, hangouts, hideaways or whatever fits your community's personality. Earn tiles, building blocks and props by participating in community defense missions, reaching community milestones and more. We also know that events are a huge part of keeping communities engaged - that's why our team will bring curated events and activities directly to your dimensions. We'll dive into that in more detail in future posts.

Pocket Dimensions

You'll definitely need your own private space... and pocket dimensions are just that. Customize your house interiors, create outside areas like gardens and build the home of your dreams. The current housing, pets and daycare system from Tatsugotchi will be upgraded into the personal dimensions system in a future update so for current players, your pets will finally be able to exit the confines of your home.

Why the Metaverse?

As a team we've never shied away from pursuing new technologies and ideas. Ever since 2015 when we pioneered the popular profile and rank cards you see on almost every Discord leveling bot today, we dreamt about how awesome it would be to go even further - interactive spaces communities could call their own. We imagined a world our members could explore and hang out in, all from what would now become the world's fastest-growing group chat application: Discord.

As the years went on, Tatsu grew as a community project and so did our ideas. In 2019, we decided to take a leap of faith - we quit our day jobs and started developing an early version of what amounted to an MVP of a full mobile game on Discord - Tatsugotchi. It had two main things vital for any metaverse - a virtual space (house) and a virtual avatar (pets). We released it to moderate success and it has become the main source of revenue for Tatsu since then.

Over the past year we've been building and testing new mechanics on Discord - episodic stories, quests, RPG elements, community events, global competitions and many more. These have greatly informed our decisions and we're happy to have incorporated many of the much-enjoyed features into key design areas within the Tatsumeeko metaverse. We want to craft a living, breathing world where you, your friends and your communities can explore, build and create meaningful connections. To do this, we want players and communities to have a true sense of ownership over their creations and valuables, which is why building a metaverse and decentralizing key aspects of our decision making is the direction we're headed.

Decentralized Autonomous Organization

Tatsugotchi players know that each month we send out Google forms via an in-game mail system. Subscribers vote to influence the features and items that will be created for release the next month. In Tatsumeeko we're making it official by introducing a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), which we're calling MeekoDAO. Through this DAO, denizens of the Tatsumeeko will directly influence our development cycle by voting on key issues related to metaverse's economy, future features and more.

Creator Tools

It is our goal to build up a robust toolset to enable creators to build new experiences, events, items, automations and more for communities in the Tatsumeeko metaverse. These tools will first be used internally by our team to create the RPG content that players see on a regular basis. As we use those tools, we'll consistently refine them until they're ready to be released to the public. The creator ecosystem has huge potential and being able to sell what you've made takes that a step further. We believe in the boundless creativity of creators and we want to let you generate new and interesting items, experiences and content for your communities.

FAQ - Existing Users

What will happen to Tatsu.GG?

Tatsumeeko will be an expansion and partial rebranding for our current Tatsu.GG app. Everything you've earned and found and purchased will be carried over during the update in some form or another. If you're a Discord administrator, worry not as all current utility, leveled roles, scoring systems and features are improved in Tatsumeeko. This will be a seamless upgrade that will not affect your servers and communities.

Can i still continue to purchase supporter perks and tokens?

Yes, everything you purchase or obtain now will still be usable in the future when the feature updates for TM start going live in Q2 2022.

What will happen to existing supporter and server premium subscribers?

Quite a lot, actually! As more features from Tatsumeeko are released for early access, supporter and server premium subscribers will receive even more perks than are currently available. Sit tight while we announce more details over the next few weeks and months!

Will Tatsu still be free to use?

Yes, nothing is changing and none of our current free features will be paywalled.

FAQ - Tatsumeeko

When is this launching?

We have no ETA on when all the features will go live, but stay tuned for a living roadmap that we'll be revealing in a few weeks. The plan is to release individual features in consistent updates during 2022, this will allow us to test and refine individual features before moving on. We expect to exit beta in early 2023.

What platforms will Tatsumeeko release on?

We'll start with Discord and web then iOS and Android. As we mature as a metaverse we'll release on other chat platforms like Guilded, QQ, WeChat and Telegram and more.

Is Tatsumeeko entirely playable on Discord?

For the most part, 95% of Tatsumeeko will be playable from Discord. However designing a community dimension will require the use of a web or mobile application. The rest of the community dimension features such as invasions and upgrades can still take place within Discord.

I don't want to interact with crypto or NFTs!

Participating in the blockchain ecosystem is completely optional! You'll be able to continue playing Tatsumeeko just like you currently interact with Tatsu. You will not be disadvantaged in any way if you don't participate. However, if you do decide you want to in the future, the option is always open.
