So you’ve read about Illuvium: Beyond, the customizable NFT collection coming soon on IMX. Now, it’s time for you to buy your first Illuvitar D1sk on March 7th, 2023.
For that, you’ll need to set up an IMX wallet. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it seems.
In celebration of Illuvium: Beyond, coming soon to IMX, we’ll walk you through:
- The different types of crypto wallets
- How to create an IMX Wallet using only an email address
- How ImmutableX benefits gamers like you
But first, a definition.
What’s a Crypto Wallet?
Crypto wallets are software or hardware that store digital assets and initiate and sign transactions across blockchain networks. Let’s take a look at each.
Digital Wallets: Digital wallets (aka software wallets or hot wallets) are connected directly to the blockchain. This makes them easily accessible and quick to use.
Hardware wallets: Also known as cold wallets, these are physical devices that live offline. Since they are only connected to the blockchain at the user's discretion, these are much safer to use. Anyone who holds a significant amount of digital assets should invest in a hardware wallet.
Designed to be carried interoperably across decentralized applications, the same wallet you use to connect to Illuvium will safely carry your Illuvials, Illuvitars, and other assets to your other favorite blockchain games and marketplaces.
On ImmutableX, this is achieved through our IMX Wallet Connect feature.
What’s IMX Wallet Connect?
IMX Wallet Connect lets users seamlessly create and connect Ethereum wallets to IlluviDex or any marketplace integrated with the IMX platform.
IMX Wallet Connect is currently compatible with:
- MetaMask
- GameStop wallet
- A hardware wallet via MetaMask
- Magic Wallet
Those who connect with their existing MetaMask or GameStop Wallet will be prompted with a signature request to create an ImmutableXkey. This allows ImmutableX to act as an extension of your Ethereum wallet.
Don’t have an existing wallet? No problem.
Thanks to our integration with ‘Magic’, you can also create new wallets using only an email address. No messy UX or confusing blockchain jargon is required.
Here’s how it works:
- Head to the IlluviDex and click the purple ‘Connect Wallet’ button on the top right of the navigation bar. A popup with multiple options will appear. Select Email.
- Enter an email address that you can easily access. The next steps will be sent to this address.
- You will receive an email prompting you to ‘Log in to Immutable X’. Click the button.
- Return to the IlluviDex marketplace. A unique ImmutableX Key is now created and registered to your Ethereum private key.
That’s it! You now have an IMX wallet interoperable across all ImmutableX integrated marketplaces. It’s that easy.
Depositing funds into your IMX wallet
Once you have your wallet set up, it's time to deposit your funds. This is crucial to ensure smooth minting for your D1sk. Without this, you won't be able to purchase an Illuvitar on March 7th.
- Head to the IlluviDex and click your wallet connected wallet. You can see the funds that are available in your wallet.
- Click Account and Deposit.
- Select the token of your choice you wish to deposit.
- Insert the amount of funds you wish, and sign the transaction.
Why Immutable?
When the network is busy, users compete to be the first to process their transactions. This forces gamers to pay high transaction fees whenever they want to perform an action.
That’s exactly where we come in. ImmutableX is a layer-2 scaling solution for NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain, designed to improve Ethereum’s user and developer experience.
Our powerful ZK-rollup scaling solution uses STARK proofs to batch thousands of transactions and process their validation off-chain, reducing the computational resources required, while maintaining the security of the Ethereum blockchain. This provides Web3 games like Illuvium with battle-tested security, lightning-fast transaction speeds, and gas-free NFT minting and trading.
Let’s break each down a bit further.
Security: ImmutableX leverages the security of the Ethereum blockchain to give you full control over your assets at all times. Whereas traditional gaming studios hold their data on centralized servers with single fail points, Ethereum stores your data across a massive global network with hundreds of thousands of servers. This means that your assets can never be lost or compromised.
Speed: Whereas Ethereum can process 30 transactions per second, ImmutableX can process up to 9,000 per second. That’s a huge upgrade.
Gas-Free: During peak network congestion, Ethereum users have two options. Wait minutes to hours for their transactions to be validated or pay a sky-high transaction fee. In some cases, transaction fees can cost more than the value of the transaction itself. ImmutableX removes gas fees from the equation, removing all transaction fees for the user.
